College of Body Science students

Starting from scratch? Re-building the framework?

This is the course to do it with. We start from the basics and build foundations before we build upwards. Many of our students come to us before or during training in different therapies or if they have done previous introductory courses and want to strengthen their basic knowledge.

More than anything we aim to inspire you to enjoy the learning process and awaken your curiosity about the subject matter. If you have come to this course through an interest in complementary medicine and haven't studied in a while don't worry! We will do our best to make the process as engaging as possible and to give you the support you need. Of course you still need to do the work, but most of us tend to find a natural interest in how our bodies function - just beware how interesting you may find it!

Our emphasis is strongly on enabling students to piece all the information together and understand how and why the field is presented in the way it is in scientific literature, at the same time making it relevant and dynamic for ourselves as alternative health practitioners. You gain a strong grounding in the useful detail of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

How we offer it

It is run as an intensive course time-wise - 2 blocks of 5 days and followed by 2 final days - and it is also intensive in the process of learning. For many people, being immersed in the subject helps with the speed and depth of the links they are able to make. Then they remember the information.

There are 75 hours of tuition and 40 hours of home study expected. This includes some personal tutorial time between the different weeks. There is 'homework' and an exam at the end. the revision time required gives you a great chance to pull everything together and really is worth the effort!

The pathology section of the course includes a visit to the Gordon Museum of Pathology at King's College London, a facility not open to the public. An extraordinary place, it houses a huge selection of pathological tissue specimens and can really help understand us some of the results of different disease processes.

As in all our courses we vary the ways we present different material, using lectures, games, group work and even visualisation to cover the topics in ways that suit everyone's learning style. We encourage skills in communicating and applying this knowledge, as well as discussion of issues in biomedical science relevant to complementary health.

Never regard study as a duty, but as the enviable opportunity to learn to know the liberating influence of beauty in the realm of the spirit for your own personal joy and to the profit of the community to which your later work belongs.
